Captains Message

With the new season coming fast I have asked our captain to put into words his thoughts ahead of our opening game. I would hope that you will all take time to read what he has to say and act in any way neccessary to help him in his plans.

Welcome to the 2010 season,

Firstly I’d like to thank all those who have played along side me over the last few years and given me the motivation and encouragement that has lead to me stepping forward to be the Saturday Captain. Through this winter, as a team in the Winchester indoor league, we have performed some truly amazing acts of escapism; this is not wholly down to luck but owes much to the tremendous team spirit.

This is what I want to see reproduced in our league campaign this season; we ended so well last year and pulled off some great performances. What all of these had in common was team spirit. We need to start the season this way to capitalise, there is a wealth of talent in the club and the competition for places will be hot this year; this is a good thing! What we need to see is everyone playing for the team, people offering encouragement not criticism and a willingness to “muck in”.

It applies both on and off the pitch, we have a great ground with excellent facilities and get provided with some of the best teas in the league, but it takes effort to keep these facilities together. We need to understand that team work on the pitch is only a part of it, the more help we get in preparation of the ground, housekeeping of the pavilion and practice sessions the better we will work as a club and team. In short you want a good strip then help prepare it, you want nice changing rooms help keep them that way, we are all capable of making this club great.

On the pitch we will, I’m sure, get our rewards if we put the effort in. Be assured I will never criticise anyone for trying their best but to me we need to approach every game with a winning mentality, come August I want to be saying “look we win our last three matches and we are promoted” rather than “we win our last 3 and we finish in the top half”, we have the facilities and the talent to achieve and succeed at a higher level.

I look to you all to help me make this a reality.

Let’s make this a great year to remember, this is where it all started!

Nathan xx :-)
