Captains Message
With the new season coming fast I have asked our captain to put into words his thoughts ahead of our opening game. I would hope that you will all take time to read what he has to say and act in any way neccessary to help him in his plans.
Gents,
I was suprised to be asked whether I would consider taking on the captaincy this season and after a little bit of thought decided I'd like to take on the challenge. I've played at Wherwell for several years now and have enjoyed playing at the club since my first game. I think the main reason we all come back week after week is our enjoyment of the game and the fact that we have a potentially great team although unfortunately we're never sure which team is going to turn up on the day. I've enjoyed some brilliant games as well as a few which involved snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and know that we all find them very frustrating.
I'm hoping that this year we can start our season in the same way we ended the last one. We have some real match winners and our ability to play as a team means we're capable of beating any team we come up against. Every single one of us is capable of turning up and putting in a match wining performance, however we need to support each other and cut out all the moaning and whinging which starts to creep in. All I would ask from every single player this season is to put a little extra in this season so that we can enjoy our season from the very first game rather than half-way through when we start playing to our potential and winning games. This will involve a good turn out for nets and any practice sessions we can arrange in the week. I know we already have some dates for nets and hope to see you all there. If any of you know of players who would be interested in playing this session please pass their details on to me and I'll contact them. I want us to have a team where everybody wants to play every week and to fights to keep there place as there are others who want to get in the team.
I hope to put a full strength team out for a knock out game we have at the beginning of May and go from there so would ask you all to look at your calendars and make yourself available. I look forward to catching up with you all soon.
